The Douglas County School District is Colorado’s third-largest school district, serving more than 63,000 students in preschool through twelfth-grade. The Douglas County School District RE-1 Board of Education is the policy-making body of the school district.

The Board is composed of 7 volunteer Directors who are elected to staggered, four-year terms at regular biennial school elections, which are held on the first Tuesday (after the first Monday) in November of each odd-numbered year. Board Directors represent 1 of the 7 director districts and are elected at-large. The next school board election will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Concerned about the small minority driving book bans both locally and nationwide, we sent the seven DCSD Board of Education Candidates a short questionnaire. We also invited them to a virtual town hall held in conjunction with Castle Rock Pride. Here’s how they responded (or didn’t):
