Our Mission
We are dedicated to defending, protecting and preserving the right to read in our local community and nationwide. We seek to…
- Educate the Douglas County community about censorship and intellectual freedom issues that directly impact our school district and public library, as well as statewide/national trends.
- Encourage the Douglas County school and library boards to protect the community’s constitutional right to read.
- Empower Douglas County residents to take supportive action for public schools and libraries.
Our Values
- We acknowledge that parents have the right to guide the reading choices of their own children, but this right should not infringe upon the reading rights of other children and families.
- We advocate for full-time teacher librarians in every school. In this age of misinformation, every school needs a certified information professional. Studies also show that students achieve more in schools with certified teacher librarians. Colorado ranks 40th for its school librarian per student ratio.
- We affirm the value of diverse and inclusive literature for everyone. Library collections should reflect the full range of the human experience.
- We respect the professional expertise of librarians and teachers, who are trained to select appropriate books for their communities and students.
