Aaron Wood presented his case regarding four LGBTQ books to the library trustees at their August Board Business Meeting. Local residents overwhelmingly spoke in support of the books and the library director’s refusal to remove, relocate, relabel or otherwise censor the materials. The library board of trustees unanimously voted that library staff followed current policies, thereby upholding the library director’s decision.

Concerningly, trustee Meghann Silverthorn made several comments indicating a lack of confidence in the library’s content selection policies and procedures. Silverthorn accused staff of “aimlessly” purchasing materials without a framework, expressing a desire to revisit those policies in the future. Director Pasicznyuk clearly explained the library’s Access and Curating Library Collections and Content Policies during the meeting, but either Silverthorn wasn’t listening, or she wasn’t satisfied with policies that expressly prohibit discrimination.
